Texas Electrical Contractor License

Insurance Requirements:

  • Electrical contractors must have general liability insurance in the following amounts: at least $300,000 per occurance (combined for property damage and bodily injury); at least $600,000 aggregate (total amount paid for property damage and bodily injury); and at least $300,000 aggregate for products and completed operations.
  • Contractors with employees must also submit proof of having either workers' compensation insurance or self-insurance.
Qualifying Individual Requirements:
  • An Electrical Contractor licensee must either employ a licensed Master Electrician at their business, or else currently hold a Master Electrician license themselves.
  • A Master Electrician’s license may only be assigned to a single Electrical Contractor, unless the Master Electrician owns more than 50 percent of the electrical contracting business.

You will need to submit a new application if your registration is over two years past the expiration date. Complete the Fire Alarm Certificate of Registration Application (SF031).
