Some states require publishing in newspapers local to addresses associated with the organization. Ads may need to be taken out in newspapers near the organization’s principal address or its registered agent address. For example, in New York, LLCs (including PLLCs) must publish notice of formation in the county where their registered agent is located. New York City-based clients can save over $1,000 in ad fees by taking advantage of our Albany-based registered agent service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Many states require organizations to advertise certain business events as a regular part of approving their filings. Publishing is accomplished by running ads in local papers to announce the business event for a specified amount of time. After the ads have run, the organization must provide proof of publication to the state, giving the local public ample time to pick up on changes to the businesses operating in their community.

There are several common triggers for publishing requirements. You may be required to publish notice following the formation of a new LLC, corporation, or nonprofit corporation. Foreign qualifying an existing entity into a new state may also require publishing. Additionally, registering a new doing-business-as (DBA) name may trigger publishing requirements.
