Licenses are typically required for individuals and businesses that provide construction industry services.
This guide contains information about construction industry licensing in Illinois.
Do not submit payment with application. The Division of Boiler Safety will process Applications in the order they are received and shall issue the applicant a license upon receipt of payment or notify the applicant of the reason for the denial.

Persons who, or businesses that, as of January 3, 2000, were installing or repairing fire sprinkler systems in the State of Illinois and had at least 3 years of prior experience installing or repairing fire sprinkler systems may employ either a Designated Certified Person or a Responsible Managing Employee (a person responsible to provide supervision and to assure that each Sprinkler System is installed and repaired in accordance with State Law). All other persons or businesses must employ a Designated Certified Person.
Designated Certified Person. A copy of the Designated Certified Person’s Illinois Professional Engineering License or NICET Level III certification in fire protection technology; automatic sprinkler layout.
Responsible Managing Employee. On a separate sheet of paper please provide:
The Responsible Managing Employee’s qualifications and last three years of work experience; and the name, address and telephone number for each person who can verify those qualifications and work experience
The business’ (license Applicant’s) work experience since January 1, 2000, identifying all the jobs in which the business has installed or repaired fire sprinkler systems; and the name, address and telephone number for each person who can verify that work experience.

If you fail to renew the license by the license’s expiration date, a reinstatement fee of $100 shall be assessed in addition to the $1,500 fee.

General Contractor Company licensure is not required on the State level in Illinois.
General Contractors are licensed at the county and city level. There is no state level license.
Illinois Lead Abatement Contractor License

Bond Requirements:
Bonds are required in varying amounts for demolition, demolition leveling, sign (billboard), private sewage disposal system, restoration performance (construction trailer), restoration performance (excavation, grading and foundation) and wireless telecommunication contractors. These bonds must be completed and submitted with evidence of the Power of Attorney at the time of registration.
Once an application has been submitted via email, the applicant will receive an invoice and instructions on how to pay by credit card online. Send a PDF copy of the receipt to complete the registration process.

Private alarm contractor registrations are issued as a courtesy to Illinois-licensed private alarm contractors and private alarm contractor agencies to allow them to be listed on permits for private alarm work in the City of Chicago without holding a City of Chicago electrical contractor license.
State-licensed private alarm contractors that will be performing electrical work in addition to private alarm work within the City of Chicago must obtain an electrical contractor license instead of a private alarm contractor registration.
