Alabama Fire Sprinkler Permit

Prior to a certificate holder being issued a permit under this section to provide residential fire protection sprinkler services, the certificate holder must provide to the State Fire Marshal an active certificate of insurance covering such work with a policy value no less than $1,000,000.

For Contractor I applicants:

  • The certificate holder must possess a NICET Level III certification as a Fire Protection Layout Technician.
  • Must be a responsible managing owner, partner, officer, or employee actively in charge of the contractor's operations.

  • Must hold a valid Master Plumber Certification issued by the Alabama Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board.

Notes:

General contractor is defined as one who, for a fixed price, commission, fee, or wage undertakes to construct or superintend or engage in the construction, alteration, maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, remediation, reclamation, or demolition of any building, highway, sewer, structure, site work, grading, paving or project or any improvement in the State of Alabama where the cost of the undertaking is $50,000 or more. This definition also includes one who, for a fixed price, commission, fee, or wage exceeding $5,000, undertakes to construct, superintend the construction of, repair, or renovate, any swimming pool, and anyone who shall engage in the construction, superintending of the construction, repair, or renovation of any swimming pool in the State of Alabama, where the cost of the undertaking exceeds $5,000.

General liability insurance with the City of Madison listed as a certificate holder. Minimum coverage is $100,000 for bodily injury for any one person, $200,000 for any one occurrence, and $100,000 for damage to the property of others.

  • Commercial general contractors must provide a copy of their license issued by the State of Alabama Licensing Board for General Contractors.

  • Plumbers and gasfitters must provide a copy of their card issued by the State of Alabama Plumbers and Gasfitters Board.
  • Heating and air conditioning contractors must provide a copy of their card issued by the State of Alabama Board for Heating and Air Conditioning Contractors.
  • Landscapers must provide us a copy of their professional services permit issued by the State of Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries.
  • Burglar or fire alarm contractors must provide us with a copy of the license issued by the State of Alabama Electronic Security Board.
  • Fire sprinkler subcontractors must provide us with a copy of their State of Alabama Fire Marshal's permit.
  • Electricians must provide us with a State of Alabama Electrical Card.
  • Swimming pool contractors must provide a copy of their license issued by the State of Alabama Licensing Board for General Contractors if the contract amount exceeds $5,000.
  • All subcontractors doing a contract amount of $50,000 or more on one commercial project must have a license issued by the State of Alabama Licensing Board for General Contractors.
