New Jersey CPA Firm Registration

Eligible Entity Types:
  • Professional Corporations

  • Partnerships
  • Limited Liability Partnerships
  • Sole Proprietorships

Ownership Requirements:
  • A simple majority of the ownership of a firm, in terms of financial interest and voting rights of all partners, officers, shareholders, members, or managers, shall belong to CPAs of any state in good standing
  • Other than a non-licensee owner, any partner, officer, shareholder, member, or manager whose principal place of business is in New Jersey shall be a CPA in good standing
  • There shall be a CPA in the firm who has ultimate responsibility for each attest engagement. On all firm applications and renewal forms, a licensee or an individual who qualifies for the practice privilege shall be designated as responsible and in charge of all professional matters relating to the practice of accountancy by the registered firm
  • Each owner of a firm in New Jersey, other than a non-licensee, personally engaged within New Jersey in the practice of accounting, shall be a licensed CPA in good standing in some state
