Southern Colorado Building Department Contractor License

Insurance Requirements:
  • General Liability Insurance in amounts not less than $250,000 per occurrence, personal injury, and property damage (CSL) and $500,000 aggregate. The certificate holder must be Pueblo Regional Building Department 830 N Main Street Pueblo, CO 81003. 
  • Workers' Compensation Insurance or a valid waiver
Notes:

The Southern Colorado Building Department (SOCOBD) serves the City of Pueblo and the Town of Boone. Contractors working in the jurisdiction of SOCOBD are required to be licensed and/or registered with the department.

Qualifying Individual Requirements:

Companies must designate one qualifying individual who validates the designation made for the application. For licenses that require an ICC exam, the qualifying individual must pass the appropriate exam. Only one person shall be named as the license holder for the contractor's license for the trade applied.

Agency Fee:

$95 application fee + applicable license fee based on contractor license type. The application contains a current fee schedule.

  • Certificate of Insurance
  • Workers' Compensation Insurance or valid waiver
  • Qualifying Person Applicant Form
  • Project History Form
  • Reference Forms (3 required for the qualifying individual)
  • Affidavit of Lawful Presence for qualifying individual
  • Government-issued photo ID for qualifying individual
  • Reference Letters for business (1 from a bank and 1 from a supplier on their respective letterhead)
    • Not required if a company has a current valid PRBD license)
  • City Use Tax License
  • Examinee's pass results of the appropriate ICC exam, if applicable

Fees vary by the type of contractor license being renewed. See a current fee schedule here

Due:

Licenses expire annually on December 31. Licensees have until January 31 to renew a license without penalty. 

Penalties:
  • Licenses renewed between February 1 and March 31 will pay the license fee + a 50% penalty of the license fee due. 
  • Licenses renewed between April 1 and May 31 will pay double the license fee due. 
  • Licenses not renewed before June 1 will become invalid, and a new application will need to be submitted.
