The Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) has announced upcoming fee adjustments for licensees under the Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers, and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA). These changes will take effect on August 1, 2025, and apply to both individuals and business entities seeking licensure, renewal, or reinstatement in Virginia. The adjustments are part of the board’s routine review process to ensure adequate funding for its operations and services.

Updated Application, Renewal, and Reinstatement Fees

The updated fee schedule affects a wide range of license types. For example, the application fee for architects will increase to $150, with renewal set at $110. Professional engineers will see their application fee set at $120 and renewals at $160. Other professions, including land surveyors, certified interior designers, and landscape architects, will also experience adjustments across all phases of licensure. Reinstatement fees, which typically apply to lapsed licenses, will range from $200 to $300, depending on the license type. Business entities and branch offices will also be affected, with new application fees of $90 and $180, respectively.

These changes underscore the importance of tracking licensing deadlines and requirements to avoid unnecessary costs or disruptions in professional practice. Staying ahead of renewal cycles and understanding fee changes is key to maintaining good standing with the board.
