One of our favorite types of businesses here at Harbor Compliance is the Social Enterprise. Social enterprises are for-profit businesses; however, their mission is to produce a measurable social or environmental benefit, rather than to maximize shareholder gains.

Our friends at the Lancaster County Community Foundation and ASSETS Lancaster are hosting The Great Social Enterprise Pitch, which is a friendly competition to determine the best social enterprise idea in Central Pennsylvania.

When we announced this event before, there were nine entries. Based on your voting and donations as a community, five ideas have made it to the next round. They are:

1) 2F5L

2) Common Wheel

3) Whimsy

4) Nomadic Animal Grazer

5) Record Eraser

For more information on these ideas, check out this article in Lancaster Online.

The final Live Pitch takes place Friday, August 8th at 7pm, at Fulton Elementary School in Lancaster. Visit the event’s Facebook page for more details.

Of the five ideas, three will win cash and in-kind prizes. Harbor Compliance will provide formation services to the winners, to transform their ideas into a legal entity and reality.

We can’t wait to see who wins. Thanks to the community for voting, and supporting social enterprise in the area!
