Last week, President Barack Obama issued an executive order declaring December 26th, 2014 a federal holiday. All executive branch departments and federal agencies will be closed, and their employees will have a four-day weekend.

Obama is not the first President to create a federally mandated holiday during the Christmas season. President George W. Bush created several during his stint as Commander-In-Chief.

While this executive order affects employees at only the federal level, we anticipate this holiday will catch on at the state level as well.

All Departments of State and Revenue will be closed December 25th for Christmas, so it is not a stretch of the imagination that they will take Friday off too.

What does this mean for you?

First, the IRS is closed, which could mean delays in obtaining EINs, filing tax elections, other taxes, and year-end filings.

If you’re trying to register a business with the state before the end of the year, do it now. With holidays and weather already affecting processing times, an additional day off will only worsen the delays.

Harbor Compliance can help you register your business immediately. With our 24-hour turn-around of LLC and incorporation documents, we can get your business set up before the holidays.

Other filings may be delayed, including foreign registrations, copy requests, and tax filings. If you need assistance with any of these before the year is done, contact us today!

Harbor Compliance wishes you, your business, and families a blessed and happy holiday season!
