Effective July 1, 2024, all nonprofit organizations registered in Mississippi are mandated to file an annual report with the Secretary of State’s Office. This requirement, established under House Bill 1344 during the 2024 Legislative Session, aims to enhance transparency and accountability within the nonprofit sector.

Key Details of the New Filing Requirement

Starting January 1, 2025, nonprofit organizations can begin submitting their annual reports, with a submission deadline of May 15 each year. The filing process is free of charge. However, failure to comply may result in the organization’s administrative dissolution.

It’s important to note that this annual report is distinct from the annual charity registration filing. Nonprofits that solicit contributions within Mississippi are required to complete both filings annually. The charity registration pertains to fundraising activities, while the new annual report focuses on organizational information.
