Employee Activity Challenge Benefits a Worthy Cause

During the month of July, the Harbor Compliance team stepped up its game—literally! We split into 10 teams and competed in an activity challenge that concluded with our winning four-person team logging a whopping 1,455,774 steps.

The Rules

The Harbor Compliance social committee spent the month of June planning the company-wide challenge. The rules were simple: log any physical activity you like and convert that activity into steps. The team with the most steps logged from July 1-31 would win bragging rights and more.

Because Harbor Compliance serves a number of nonprofit organizations, many with missions focused on health and wellness, we created another incentive for our employees to get active. For any team in which all of its members successfully met their activity goal (logging 30 active minutes or more per day), Harbor Compliance would donate $100 to our client, Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation.

The Cause

Founded by Stephen and Ayesha Curry, Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation is “committed to unlocking the amazing potential of every child by fighting to end childhood hunger, ensuring students have access to a quality education, and providing safe places for all children to play and be active.”

Their work serves children in underserved communities, where access to nutritious food, educational opportunities, and resources for safe pay and activity are limited. The goal? Remove the barriers to success, giving every child the tools they need to reach their full potential.

Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation has been a Harbor Compliance client since 2019. What better way to celebrate our employees’ hard work than to find new ways to support this impactful organization?

The Results

After a month of friendly smack-talking and fierce competition, the challenge concluded with team “Puggles” taking the gold. Two Puggles team members logged over half a million steps each (an average of more than 16,000 steps per day)! Congratulations to teams “Caterpillars” and “Otters,” who rounded out the top three.

On behalf of the four teams who met their activity goals this month, Harbor Compliance donated $400 to Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation. Team Puggles also won a goody bag full of healthy treats, workout gear, and Eat. Learn. Play. swag.

The challenge allowed our growing team to support a worthy cause, connect, compete, and get healthy together. We’re counting it as an all-around win and look forward to more healthy competition next year.
