California Secretary of State Temporarily Suspends Filing Operations to Transition Online System

Update March 29, 2022: The California Secretary of State has updated its website to announce delays in the new bizfile Online portal will continue at least through April 7, 2022.

Beginning March 11, 2022, the California Secretary of State Business Programs Division will temporarily suspend all over the counter and online services as it transitions to a bizfile Online portal. The estimated launch date for the new online system will be March 29, 2022.

As a result, many business filings submitted to the California Secretary of State’s office will not be processed during this time. 

Current online filing services for statements of information, corporation formation, and LLC formation, and LLC termination will not be available. Filings that were mailed will still be processed, but delays on mailed documents are expected.

Regardless of filing method, organizations expecting to form, foreign qualify, or file in California should prepare for lengthy delays. 

Once released, the new California bizfile portal is expected to include comprehensive online business filing services, including:

• 70+ Online Forms for Corporations, Limited Liability Companies and Limited Partnerships
• Shopping Cart for easy payment
• Online Certified Copies and Certificates of Status
• Online Certification Verification Search
• Online Entity Name Reservations
• More robust Business Search which includes an Advance Search and Publicly Traded Search
• Free access to 17+ million images of Corporations, Limited Liability Company and Limited Partnership documents
• Secure Access using Okta, a Multi-Factor Authentication Application
