Secretary of State Scott Gessler announced a Colorado fee holiday, set to begin July 1, 2014. As a result, the fee for new business filings has been reduced from $50 to $1. The aim is to pass savings from a government surplus onto new business owners in the state and to drive economic growth.

Gessler made the announcement in June, citing a repayment of a recent cash fund raid, a budget surplus, and new technology driving internal processes. You can watch the full announcement below:

This holiday will be in effect for the summer of 2014, and will be re-evaluated monthly thereafter.

It has never been a better time to start a business in Colorado. If you’ve been considering (or procrastinating on) forming an LLC, a corporation, or a nonprofit, act now, or miss out on the state’s generosity.
