Licenses

We track the following licenses with the Baltimore County Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court (MD) in order to provide compliance services to our clients. As a client, you see this and other reference data in License Manager in-line with your licenses.

Notes:
  • Unless you are a grower or manufacturer, you may not offer for sale, sell or otherwise dispose of any goods within Maryland, without first obtaining a trader's license from the Clerk of the Circuit Court and opening a sales tax account.
  • A separate trader's license is required for each store or fixed place of business that a person operates in the State.
  • Businesses that operate 2 or more retail stores under the same general management or ownership in the State must also obtain a Chain Store license (issued in conjunction with a Trader's License).

  • $20, if the value of the applicant's stock-in-trade is not more than $1,000;
  • $40, if the value is more than $ 1,000 but not more than $5,000;
  • $80, if the value is more than $ 5,000 but not more than $10,000;
  • $160, if the value is more than $ 10,000 but not more than $50,000;
  • $375, if the value is more than $ 50,000 but not more than $100,000;
  • $450, if the value is more than $ 100,000 but not more than $200,000;
  • $500, if the value is more than $ 200,000 but not more than $300,000;
  • $775, if the value is more than $ 300,000 but not more than $400,000;
  • $1,000, if the value is more than $ 400,000 but not more than $500,000;
  • $1,250, if the value is more than $ 500,000 but not more than $750,000; and
  • $1,600, if the value is more than $750,000.

 

Applicants who also need to obtain a Chain Store license must pay an additional fee based on the number of stores operated in the State:

  • $12 for each store for 2 to 5 stores;
  • $50 for each store for 6 to 10 stores;
  • $250 for each store for 11 to 20 stores; or
  • $375 for each store for more than 20 stores.
