Top 5 Tips on Registering a Business in Idaho

  1. All Idaho LLCs and corporations must appoint a registered agent. This individual or company receives legal documents for the business. For plumbers, consultants, and other professions that are regularly out-of-office, plan for the annual expense of hiring help.
  2. Your business name must include one of the permissible corporate suffixes. We'll explain your options for your business structure.
  3. It's kind of hilarious that Idaho charges a surcharge if your formation documents are not typed. I guess they got sick of sloppy handwriting. If you type your documents, you can save $20.
  4. Most businesses will need to file online at the Idaho Business Registration System and Permit/Account Application. This will register your corporation with the Idaho Department of Labor, the Idaho State Tax Commission, and the Idaho Industrial Commission.
  5. Idaho is the easiest state to file your annual report and it is free. You'll get a postcard reminder and a PIN. If you fail to file after 60 days late, the secretary may dissolve or revoke your business. It's free an easy, just make sure to tend to it promptly when you get your reminder card.
