We track the following licenses with the Idaho Board of Architectural Examiners in order to provide compliance services to our clients. As a client, you see this and other reference data in License Manager in-line with your licenses.

Idaho Architect License

Initial Registration

This section applies to architects that are applying for a license in Idaho for the first time.

Required Attachments:

Applicants who graduated from a NAAB Accredited Program

  • Complete signed and notarized application with notary seal and required fees. 
  • Proof of identification – a clear and readable color copy of a government-issued photo ID such as a passport, military ID, or
    valid driver’s license is acceptable.
  • Official transcripts sent directly to our office from the issuing authority.
  • Proof of starting or completing the AXP . 
  • Copy of legal name change, if applicable (marriage license, divorce decree or court order). This is applicable if the name used on any accompanying documents, such as transcripts or proof of age, does not match the name on the application. 

Applicants who did not graduate from a NAAB Accredited Program

  • Complete signed and notarized application with notary seal and required fees. 
  • Proof of identification – a clear and readable color copy of a government-issued photo ID such as a passport, military ID, or
    valid driver’s license is acceptable.
  • Verification of 8 years of experience in the form of letters of reference detailing work experience on company letterhead from direct supervisor(s)
  • Proof of starting or completing the AXP.
  • Copy of legal name change, if applicable (marriage license, divorce decree or court order). This is applicable if the name used on any accompanying documents, such as transcripts or proof of age, does not match the name on the application. 

Reciprocal Registration

This section applies to architects licensed in another state that are looking for reciprocal licensure in Idaho.

Required Attachments:
  • Proof of identification – a clear and readable color copy of a government-issued photo ID such as a passport, military ID, or valid
    driver’s license is acceptable.
  • NCARB record or certificate sent directly from NCARB to the Idaho Board OR Certification(s) of licensure of a current Architect license must be sent directly to our office from the state(s) where you are currently or have ever been licensed. If states have a primary source verification website you may print off the information and send it with your application. Print out must include primary source verification language. You must include verification of passing all divisions of the ARE or an acceptable alternate exam. 
  • Copy of legal name change, if applicable (marriage license, divorce decree or court order). This is applicable if the name used on any accompanying documents, such as transcripts or proof of age, does not match the name on the application.

Registration Renewal

This section applies to architects that are already licensed in Idaho and need to renew their license.

Idaho Architecture Firm License

Not required



Architecture Firm licensure is not required on the State level in Idaho.

Firm licenses are not issued at the state level, however, a licensed individual must oversee all architectural work. Firms should consult board rules and state statutes before doing business.

Ownership Requirements:

Business Corporations:

  • Officers and directors need not be licensed, but the corporation must appoint an Idaho licensed individual to be responsible for all professional activities undertaken by the firm.

Professional Corporations:

  • For Idaho PCs, each of the officers, shareholders, and directors must be licensed individuals.
  • For foreign PCs, there is no license requirement for officers and shareholders, but the firm must appoint an Idaho licensed individual to be responsible for all professional activities undertaken by the firm.

Limited Liability Companies:

  • Members need not be licensed, but the LLC must appoint an Idaho licensed individual to be responsible for all professional activities undertaken by the firm.

Professional Limited Liability Companies:

  • For Idaho PLLCs, each of the members and managers must be licensed individuals.
  • For foreign PLLCs, there is no license requirement for members and managers, but the firm must appoint an Idaho licensed individual to be responsible for all professional activities undertaken by the firm.

Partnerships:

  • Partners need not be licensed, but the partnership must appoint an Idaho licensed individual to be responsible for all professional activities undertaken by the firm.
